Avoid Haloscan
Some of you may already have noticed that comments which were posted here during the slashdotting today (and all previous comments too) have disappeared. That's because I had installed the Haloscan comments and trackback system, and I uninstalled it today when I was re-doing the appearance of this blog. Apparently the system isn't smart enough to save the comments.
I know the new look is a little boring and square, but it will do for now. I may get round to improving it a bit more later on.

I've only played with haloscan a tiny bit, but as long as the entry ID is the same, the comments will still be there. Are your haloscan comments done by number or by name?

Actually, I don't know - I did the automatic install and didn't have to bother with that kind of thing... which in the end was maybe a bad thing.

Erm. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Haloscan lots of times without losing a single comment (when I was changing templates and such). You should be able to see the comments in the manage comments page at HS too.

OK. Strange. I must have messed it up somehow.
Well, come to think of it, the problem was that I couldn't find the uninstall option over at Haloscan, so I just switched templates. Naturally, the comments are gone, but I think I'll just go without Haloscan.

Shame - it's dead easy to get HaloScan back. Did you check in the forums?
